Corporate Assistant Controller (Finance team succession)


This is a Full-time position in Sherbrooke, QC posted September 6, 2018.

Exo-s is seeking for a candidate interested to evolve in a dynamic team! Starting with a temporary mandate to fill in for the Corporate Assistant Controller (for the duration of her maternity leave), the job will evolve towards a Plant Controller role afterwards.


Reporting to the Vice-President of Finance, the incumbent main responsibilities, during his first year at Exo-s, will be to prepare consolidated financial statements, to coordinate the development of financial accounting tools, and to ensure compliance of the financial information produced by the department. The candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Human Resources, Strategic Purchasing, etc.).

More precisely, the candidate will:

  • Participate in the preparation and analysis of Financial Statements monthly;
  • Conduct monthly analyses of the Balance Sheet;
  • Ensure accurate intercompany transactions and maintain adequate documentation on transfer pricing policies;
  • Assess financial risks, prepare financial forecasts and make recommendations;
  • Plan short and long term cashflows and assess the effectiveness of the hedging policy;
  • Design and disclose key performance indicators;
  • Prepare documents for the Audit Committee;
  • Do research on complex accounting issues (ASPE);
  • Participate in the preparation of financial forecasts and ad-hoc analyses;
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget;
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual external audit of the Financial Statements;
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and propose improvements if necessary;
  • Manage the requests of the Canadian and US tax authorities;
  • The chosen candidate will have to manage a team of 3 employees who will support him to meet these challenges.

Still supported by an experienced team focussed on continuous improvement, the candidate will evolve towards a Plant Controller role.

More accurately the person will be expected to:

  • Assist operations management in monitoring performance;
  • Coach the Management Committee on critical trend regarding the company financial performance;
  • Prepare the financial statements monthly and perform variance analysis and financial reporting;
  • Participate in forecasting and budgeting processes;
  • In collaboration with local team, coordinate the annual budget and quarterly forecast to ensure completion on time;
  • Perform regular budget follow-ups with department heads;
  • Prepare the annual audit files of the Canada operations;
  • Assist operations management in preparing capital expenditure requests;
  • Follow-up capital expenditures and other projects (e.g. R&D, training, grants etc.);
  • Validate the cost of the main products manufactured by the plant;
  • Ensure effective internal controls.


  • CPA designation required;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience;
  • Work experience in a big accounting firm;
  • Manufacturing experience an asset;
  • Bilingualism – both verbal and in writing (knowledge of Spanish an asset);
  • The candidate will be required to perform occasional projects at company’s locations outside of Canada (2-3 times / year);
  • Rigor, autonomy, and initiative;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Strong computer skills (Office);
  • Experience with an ERP;
  • Strong priority management skills while respecting deadlines;
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Organization skills, preciseness and autonomy;
  • Focused on improving business processes.
